Is there aspestos in this artex?

by DawnMids » Tue Oct 11, 2022 9:04 am

Hi I am really worried as I didn’t think this was artex and didn’t really know nothing about artex and aspestos anyhow: basically this was my sons ceiling so I decided to scrape it off and repair and paint. But I shown someone the before pictures and they said it’s artex and likely to have aspestos. So now feel awful and worried that I have put my kids and myself at risk, for not knowing. I’m obviously not sure if it’s aspestos or not

Hi

The best way to find out for sure is to get some of it tested for asbestos, see our project here for more information: https://www.diydoctor.org.uk/projects/asbestos.htm

We also have a project here on how to remove asbestos safely: https://www.diydoctor.org.uk/projects/artex.htm

In the mean time until you have teh results back it's best to not use the room space any further, seal it up and don't go in there. Also vacuum around outside where there may be a chance that any dust had travelled to and also bag up any clothes that you may have been wearing, the fibres can stick to clothes and even washing doesn't get it all out.

Once you have teh test results back you will then know and if there is evidence of asbestos then it will need to be delt with by a professional asbestos removal company. Simply run a web search for asbestos removal in your local area and you should get at least 1 result

Hope this helps
