My shower extractor fan releases straight into the loft

by Notmyrealname » Sat Dec 10, 2022 8:18 am

Earlier in the year we had an electrician replace the extractor fan in the shower for a more powerful one as we had terrible damp and mould in the bathroom. This improved the situation but we now have damp ceilings in a couple of places so my husband had a look in the loft and saw wet which we suspected was condensation. We realised that the shower fan extracts straight into the loft space and after Googling this realised it should be properly vented to a roof tile with a vent.
We have no desire to attempt this job ourselves but my question is, do we need an electrician, a roofer or general builder to do this job? Any idea of the cost to fix this?
The fan itself is working fine so not sure there's further electrical work involved.

Hi notmyrealname,
Fitting a vent tile in place of a roof tile will need access to your roof so probably a roofer would be best.
