Advice on Repairing a Broken Lamp Ask questions and find answers to many subjects relating to electrics and electrical work

Hi, This is my first post and I literally found the site by Googling “DIY questions answered”!

I have a broken lamp. I think I have been able to attach a picture. I don’t know what I need to buy to fix it. I was going to get a whole lead, but I don’t know how I would thread it through. Is there a simple way to fix this, please? I haven’t got a clue where to start.

Was it by any chance knocked it over? It doesn't need a new cable, the part that would secure the lamp holder is missing. It looks like a generic production line lamp = no spares. No spares, no repair. Nothing you can do with it.

Thank you for replying. Yes it was knocked over. I’m not sure what was removed after that. I thought I would be able to buy something like this:

I mentioned it to a neighbour and they think with the two prongs at the top that one of those solutions would work. Is that correct?? I would really like to save the lamp legs and overall look. I just don’t know what to do. If I even knew who to take it to I would.

You need a means to secure the lamp holder to what remains, I suspect the part for the job is broken, even if it wasn't broken, you, by your own admission would not know what to do. However, since your neighbour is of the opinion it can be repaired, ask him to do it. I understand you don't want to dispose of it, but sometimes you have no choice, if it is of any consolation, it could not have been that good if it broke when you knocked it over

There are bulb holders designed to convert a bottle into a lamp, and if one had the right die one may be able to cut a new thread, but cost of dies and stock to hold it, is likely more than a new lamp.
