Laying laminate up to tiled walls

by sue356 » Mon Jan 07, 2008 12:34 pm

I want to lay tile effect laminate flooring in my bathroom however the walls are all ceramic tiled down to the floor i.e. no skirting boards. Can someone advise what can be used to cover the edges between the flooring and the tiles as wood wouldnt look right with this kind of laminate. Also, if I did decide to use normal floorboard effect laminate, can anything other than wood edging be used such as a silicone adhesive. Would this work or would I need to glue the edging to the ceramic tiles?

Cheers

Do the suppliers of the tile effect laminate supply a matching trim bead? If so, perhaps this could be stuck to the base of your tiled wall with a suitable moisture resistant adhesive. I think that would look quite neat. If not, try and match the bead colour to your tiles.

Good luck

You could use Bona GapMaster which is a mastic wood coloured bead system like Silicon. Because it is designed for wood flooring it comes in about 15 wood colours. Try the internet to find some if not available at your local flooring specialist.

Thanks so much for this - the link for the flooring sealant is a great help! I have also found out that MFI now supply tile effect flooring with matching edging and profiles/thresholds in both black and cream which is good - the only place I have found to date! :D
