Potterton Kingfisher clicking /surging noise

by carlsbergy » Sun Jan 13, 2008 4:48 pm

When the room has reached temperature and boiler clicks off or when water reached temperature and boiler clicks off, the boiler makes a clicking noise/surging noise, then when temperature in room calls for heat boiler fires up fine and runs ok. Any ideas on clicking noise?

Also want to put it under British gas contract and the engineer on his work sheet refusal notice said something about not enough 22mm pip running from flow and return before becoming 15mm, is there a recommended length of 22mm pipe before it goes down to 15mm?

Also there is no air vent on the hotwater tank on the hotwater side . Do I just cut into the top pipe where the water flows in, fit T piece and bleed valve, once system is drained?

Thanks

Could the clicking noise just be the pipes expanding ?
surging noise, water being pumped through the pipes ?

Ideally 22mm flow and return should be taken as far as possible into the house with 15mm or 10mm branches or manifolds to feed the radiators.

If the pipes reduce to 15mm after 1 or 2 metres then there'll be alot of friction and you will probably find it takes a while for the whole system to get to a decent temperature. I would consider increasing the flow and return to 22mm.

Potterton Kingfisher - good boiler, shouldn't give you much trouble.

Thanks for reply, I dont think it is water etc in the pipes making the noise, sounds like the boiler is clicking on/off making this surging noise.
