We are having a persistent problem with condensation in our main bedroom. We have repainted one wall, which is external, with anti-mould paint and installed extra air bricks below the damp course. The double glazing units are covered in condensation each morning and we have a fine covering of condensation against the external wall to a height of about 6 to 8 inches.

We run a de-humidifier and open the windows most days, weather permitting, but still the problem persists? We are installing cavity wall insulation soon and were wondering if fitting an air vent above the damp course or in the floor would be a good idea prior to the cavity wall insulation being fitted? :cry:

DO YOU LIVE IN A BUNGALOW?

THEY ARE NOTORIOUS FOR THIS PROBLEM!

SMALLER VOLUME OF AIR BECOMES MOISTURE LAIDEN!!!

PUTTING IN CAVITY WALL INSULATION IS THE BEST THING YOU CAN DO TO HELP THIS COLD WALL PROBLEM WHERE WARM MOIST AIR CONDENSES OUT.

HAVE THIS DONE FIRST AND ASSESS THE SITUATION FROM THERE.

I THINK YOU WILL FIND AN IMPROVEMENT WITH THE WALL CONDENSATION BUT THE WINDOW CONDENSATION WILL STAY THE SAME.(DOUBLE GLAZING/GLASS IS COLDEST SURFACE IN YOUR ROOMS)
TRY LEAVING SMALL WINDOW VERY SLIGHTLY OPEN AT NIGHT OR HAVE TRICKLE VENTS INSTALLED AND LEAVE OPEN AT NIGHT.

IF YOU CAN AFFORD IT. KEEP THE HEATING ON DURING THE NIGHT THROUGH THE COLD MONTHS THIS WILL KEEP MOISTURE IN THE AIR.
TURN OFF HEATING IN THE MORNING AND VENTILATE THE ROOM/S TO ALLOW MOIST AIR TO BE REPLACED WIH DRYER COOL AIR.

ITS A BALANCING TRICK REALLY.

HEAT, VENTILATION AND INSULATION.

THERE ARE APPLIANCES THAT YOU CAN HAVE INSTALLED IN YOUR LOFT THAT TAKE THE MOISTURE OUT OF THE EXTRACTED AIR AND RETURN THE WARM DRY AIR BACK INTO YOUR ROOMS AND DRAIN THE WATER OUTSIDE.(LIKE GRAND DEHUMIDIFIERS BASICALY)
