As long as the wooden floor is fixed very well and is not flexible tiles can be laid on it Adam. Its just the addhesive that needs to change. Go tou your local tiling store and get flexible tile adhesive for wooden floors as well as powder adhesive for concrete floors. We cannot stress enough that there must be no flexibility in the timber floor as if there is the floor will bend and the tiles will crack or the joints will break up. If the floor is too springy then you may have to install 18mm plywood on all surfaces to keep them all level and fix to the existing joists in the wooden floor section to stiffen it up.
