Hi, im thinking of making a garden water feature out of slate rocks approx 1" to 2" thick and was wondering what i need to cut a hole (approx 3/4") in them. Any help would be appreciated.

A diamond "core" drill bit is best for this. They can be hired from a tool hire shop and will fit in a standard power drill. Don't be put off by the word diamond, they are not hugely expensive to hire.
