by doughammond » Sun Apr 22, 2007 5:40 pm

Can someone suggest the trick in undoing the old faulty 27" (top fit)element without wrecking the copper cylinder. It is stuck hard tried WD40 and easing fluid.
Help please.

try shocking the nut by simultaneously hitting it on either side with 2 hammers to break the seal and use a long wrench if poss. instead of a cheap and shorter immersion spanner.

I expect the element was sealed in place using something like "Boss-White" jointing paste. It may respond to heat from a gas blow-torch, or just after heating, if the element is cooled more rapidly than the housing.
