Hi
Purchased a couple of knotty pine doors from B&Q. I know it's not the best of wood but it sure looks great!
How can I protect it as there are some reviews which are concerning?
Also, there are 2 knots which lets some light through. What should I do with those? I'm yet to varnish...
Btw once you varnish doors with a quality product there's no need to sand it down softly and re-varnish is there?
Thanks in advance, Raul

Hi
Apologies for the lack of response on this - Starting with the knots, these can be filled using a Neutral Wood Filler, such as this one here:
https://www.diydoctor.org.uk/DIY-superst ... 125ml.html. Once cured, sand down lightly so that it is smooth and flat.
In terms of the varnish, yes, to get the best and most long lasting finish the best approach to take is apply first coat of varnish and let it dry. Sand it down very lightly and then apply a second coat.
The best varnish to use is a polyurethane clear satin varnish such as this one here as this flexes with changing temperatures etc.... and also resists knocks etc....:

Most good quality knotting solutions will do the job, obviously be aware of coloured ones depending on what colour finish you are going to use. There is a selection here:
