Is Polyfiller Safe for use Inside a Fridge?

Hi,
Could anyone help me with an advice? A side shelf of our fridge was broken and the landlord has fixed it using polyfiller (and without removing food from the fridge whilst it was drying).
Is polyfiller safe for use inside fridge? Also, can the food (which has probably absorbed some of the vapour of the drying material) be still eaten?
Any advice would be very much appreciated!
