How to Fit Kitchen Laminate Worktop End Cap?

Hi, I'm new to the forum so apologies if I've posted this in the wrong forum. I would like some advice as how to fit a metal end cap to a laminate kitchen worktop. It was fitted a few months ago by a professional but the laminate end strip has started to peel away very slightly and I have some water ingress. I've temporarily sealed it with tape, but am thinking a metal end cap would be better.
I want to make sure it's absolutely watertight as it's very near the drainingboard of the kitchen sink. Is just removing the end strip and fitting the end cap protection enough, or would it be advisable to seal the chipboard end with something (PVA or something that creates a waterproof seal) before I put the end cap over top?
Any advice would be welcome - I want to do this once and I want to do it correctly!
Thanks.
