Using a Laser Distance Meter or Meter Ruler for Measuring

Hi,
Recently I'm looking to renovate my living room and have to measure the room. Just wonder which tool do you guys prefer when comes to measuring house.
For me, I prefer laser distance measurer which is much convenient when you have to measure a really super big house, high ceilings without climbing a ladder.
What's your thoughts?
