We have a fifty year old low level toilet, the cistern has been cracked can we replace it with a modern one without changing the pan. It is old too and it has a complicated waste to turn it from rear entry to left side entry.
All new ones seen have rear exits from pan and therefore we'd like to leave well alone.

Fit a complete new one. The direction the spigot is pointing on the back of the pan is not too relevant. Plenty of adaptor pieces and other plumbing bits on the market to do exactly what you want.
Cheers
