i have recently fitted a new wooden floor to my lounge and replacing skirting with oak but i dont know how to get it around the window

Unless you know someone with a steamer who can bend the skirting for you it can be cut into shorter lengths and fitted round with a series of mitres. See the project on angles used in carpentry.
