How do I prepare plasterboard walls for painting

Hi all,

I have just removed a grotty dado rail and a rather large kids sticker which was placed all round the room of my son's new bedroom. The problem is the top paper of the plasterboard has ripped in places and where the dado rail was also stuck on it has left streaks of glue. How do I get the walls nice and prepared for painting?

1. Have it skimmed or;

2. Scrape the rest of the glue off. Sand (fine grit) the rough edges of the paper surface of the plasterboard where the glue and the sticker were. Apply some fine surface filler. Sand it back flush. Line the whole lot and paint.
