worktop joins over appliances

Hi,
i will be shortly putting in a new kitchen ( as i mentioned in my tiling question ), and i will be having three lengths of worktop. I have to join two, but because of their lengths and the size of my kitchen i will have to have the join over the top of an appliance. The appliance ( a dryer ) is not one which is built in to a cupboard but just stands alone and pushes under the worktop. What is worrying me is that where this join will be there will be nothing supporting it underneath, which means with wear and tear it will eventually sag at the join or worse still, will break altogether.
Any ideas? :D
