Help Needed With Electric Loft Ladder

Hi,
We have an electric loft ladder that seems to be belt driven via a motor.
It works by pressing an electric switch on the wall. The loft hatch was not flush and tried to adjust the belts, all this did was mess up the the whole thing! Does anybody know how to get this working again. Before we tried to adjust ladder everything was fine.
