Hi there, I am currently taking on building a 8x6 shed using OSB sheets, its all from scratch (not a prebuilt kit), my main concern is what thickness of OSB to use, the area i live in does get gusty at times but with the framework plans i have made should be ok.

The reasons I ask this question is there is a big price difference an I dont want to be spending extra money if I dont have to.

If on the other hand you can suggest an alternative then I am all open to suggestions.

I am not sure OSB is damp-proof, I have used it in a garage and the layers of wood lift off the surface. How about using sheathing ply which is supposed to be OK in damp conditions. Or try to buy a secondhand shed which will probably be cheaper.

Like Stoneyboy I've had some problems with OSB - or Sterling board as I know it - the surface can 'flake off' as I found to my frustration when I used it to level a floor (because of the cheaper price) and used double sided tape to secure lino - if I had to re-position any pieces, the tape pulled the surface off the OSB.

Quoting an informative website: "OSB panels have no internal gaps or voids, and are water-resistant, although they do require additional membranes to achieve impermeability to water."

In an exposed situation like a shed, 'water-resistant' isn't good enough! Plus I think it looks pretty naff!

Weatherboarding over a stout frame would be the 'proper' way. It can be pretty cheap if you can get away with using offsaw treated - have a scout around timber merchants.

Check eBay - some interesting 'wood effect' metal sheds there for around £200, delivered.

Thank you for you replys reguarding my shed project, and to save any future tantrums (lol) i will do like both you guys have mentioned...i'm gonna get a cheap shed. To be honest i didnt really think about the OSB flaking away but i guess the though was there.
