hi Guys

I need to replace the balustrade that is afixed to a flat roof, the old one is rotting away. I have asked four carpenters to quote to build and install another, and they never come back. Im fairly capable but something like this wwould take me a fair a bit of time to build from scratch, time i dont have. I want it wooden, preferably hardwood to match my windows. Ive seen ones for decking. But most seem a little how shall we say basic, id like something reasonably attractive, and im not sure they will be sturdy enough for a balcony. I was hoping I could order one in kit form and install myself, but i cant find anyone on the internet that does this, which i was surprised at. Any one have any ideas?

ocean,
The greatest problem will be how to attach the balustrade to the flat roof without piercing the flat roof, once this is solved the rest should be straightforward. Whatever you install don't forget a 100mm ball must not pass through the balustrading.

there is a balustrade already, so its merely a matter of taking the old one off and utilising the existing fixings id have thought. I cant actually see what they are because they are not visible. Im assuming they are some kind of verticle rod that runs up the centre of the posts. In that respect its solid, but the handrails are rotting and the tennison joints of the horizontal slats are spongelike. ill be having the roof renovated its a bit bubbly anyhow so new fixings can go on then if necassary. Still doesnt change the fact no one wants to do it and i cant find a supplier of a kit of some sort, looks like ill be in the garage with me chisels again

ocean,
Can only suggest you find a firm specialising in supplying machined hardwood and supply them drawings showing what you want. Be prepared to take out a mortgage it won't be cheap!
