Hi

I intend to lower the ceiling by about 12 inches in a bathroom of size 2.5m x 3.5m. I am going to construct a frame around the walls and place cross members every 400mm. PLasterboard will be fixed to the frame and pvc cladding screwed to the plasterbaord.

What size timber should be used for the timber framework ? Would 2" x 2" be OK?

Regards

Hi,

50mm x 50mm would be ok as long as you used some struts fixed to the new ceiling timbers, extended vertically and fixed to timbers, which in turn are fixed to the existing ceiling joists.

Hope this helps,

Steve

i'd go for either 3 x 2 or 4 x 2, its gona be a lot strong as im sure you'll be using 1/2 plasterboard...better job for the sake of a few extra pounds..
