Folks. We have just have a new extension into which we have fitted wooden window frames and a wood framed, wood back door - opening *outwards".

The extension brickwork was painted.

The problem we have is that when it rains, the back door frame fills with water at the top, showering you when you push it open outwards. The downstairs windows have rain running down the painted brickwork and over the glass.

Is there a way of attaching something over the windows/ the frames and what is the best way of solving the back door frame water problem please.

I have thought of refixing the door as an inward opener but we would have to move a heating radiator on the inside.

Not sure if we are getting this John. How does your door frame "fill" with water and what is unusual about rain water running over the glass ?

If you want to throw the water from the wall out and over frames etc you can fit a weather bar over both. Visit your local builders merchants to see a weather bar which is more usually put at the bottom of a door to throw the water away from the threshold.

Hi doctor. The door frame "fills" with water just at the top. So when you open the outward opening door you get showered with water. The water seems to just sit on top of the door until you open it and get wet :-)

Re. the water on windows. It just seems a bit too much. We moved from a house with deep eaves and we did not notice the water running down the wall and onto the windows so much (that house was bare brick whereas this one is painted brick).

Hi, What you need is a drip mould, which is fitted to the head of the the frames. Go to a small joinery company and explain your problem, they should be able to help This should prevent the rain gathering on top of the door.

Thanks wack. Looks like the local joinery shop is going to get some more business. Do you know how the "drip mould" is usually attached please.

Hi, A drip mould is machined out of softwood or hardwood timber. To fit just glue and panel pin to the heads of the window frames and doorframe. Be sure to pre-drill with a drill bit slightly thinner than the panel pins to prevent splitting. Fit the one to the doorframe about 8mm above the top of the door. Measure the external brickwork openings for the lengths you require. Fill pin holes and paint to match existing.
