Tips on the best way to connect Handrail to Newal Post

by snaffler » Tue May 24, 2011 10:02 pm

I am looking for any tips on this subject, I dont really have enough play to make a M & T Joint so I am at this stage thinking of offering the rail up once both Newal posts are in place, then clamping it in place and carfully drilling a pilot at the correct degree to use a large screw bolt to pull the rail in to place (this will be counter sunk allowing me to fill the hole once the bolt has gone in past the surface of the newal post.

Any better ideas tried and tested very welcome.

Many thanks

snaffler,
Use a proprietary handrail fixing bolt or an angle bracket let into the newel post and fixed into the grove under the handrail.
