Roof Beams

Hello, I am renovating a 1930s bungalow and the beams which support the main roof structure have been removed. These are the beams which run from the centre of the loft floor at about 45 degrees to support the cross beams on each side of the roof. I know that this house originally had these beams and I want to replace them so that the roof is properly supported. Could you please tell me what size of wood I should use and/or what size and type of wood the original beams would have been on this age of house. Thanks
