Boxing in a chimney

Not sure if this is in the right topic but i'm sure it'll be redirected by the DIY gods.

I have just removed my gas fire and it opens into the old fireplace, or whats left of it. Can see a oblong type metal thing which i take was a back boiler and then just bricks etc. The hearth is not there i take it some demolition and re jigging has been done in the past...anyhow.

I just want to box all the ugly brickwork and stuff off and have the fireplace as a arty farty feature and not use it. I'd be happy with it all flush with the marble surround but a wee alcove would be nice.

Any Ideas or tips on what is best to use (plasterboard etc).

You might be better off asking in one of the general building ones! AFAIK you could use pretty much what ever you want, provided you incorporate a ventilation grill to keep any damp at bay.

I’d probably just brick it up with some lightweight blocks plastered over, but then I’m an old luddite, there is probably some better high tech way!
