Sorry if that sounds a bit noddy but what is the best way to fix mesh to mdf? I've heard that staple guns don't do so well on the hardness of mdf. It's basically a 100 x 50cm piece of mdf with slots in and I want to mesh the whole area to make the ventilation slots smaller - it's the lid of a pet cage.

Hi

The normal fixing to use in situation would probably be a galvanized staple. The one in the image is a 40mm version which is probably a little big for you but they can be bought in a variety of sizes and should be available in your local DIY store. They can then be hammered in using a hammer. It's important that they don't protrude through the MDF into the area where the pet will be so they don't injure themselves so getting the right size is very important.
