Refitting a Magnetic Door Hinge and Can't get Them Apart

Hi all,
I'm a complete novice with DIY. I just moved into a flat and was just cleaning some hinges of doors with paint on them. This one particular hinge I was having trouble with so I wanted to take it off, put it in boiling water, and put it back on again. However, when I took it off I realised the hinge was strongly magnetic (must be a fire door? it does close quite forcefully) and now I can't separate one of the hinges from its partner no matter how hard I tried. I have to pull immensely hard on both ends to separate the two parts but as soon as I let go they snap back together, making it impossible to screw the hinge back on like this. I've attached some pics in the hope that they will help.
Any help would be much appreciated!
