Fitting Door Closer to a Hollow Door

by Witterings » Sun Dec 29, 2019 12:11 am

I'm relatively new to DIY so limited knowledge but always eager to learn ... I've just bought one of these door closers and it has a sentence in the fitting instructions that says drill into a cross beam ....

https://www.screwfix.com/p/smith-locke- ... -5mm/5711g

I'm guessing that means into solid wood as opposed to a hollow part of a door frame????

The type of door it'll be fitted to is one of the generic ones similar to this

I'd always assumed they were just hollow but maybe it's too big an area without something holding it together in the middle ... if they do have a solid cross beam how would I find out where it runs as there aren't any obvious signs on the door itself??

My 1st ever post in a DIY forum so plese be gentle as you take my DIY cherry :-)
