We are thinking of creating a dressing room in our bedroom as we have too much floor space but not enough storage space. There will be no changes to plumbing, electrics etc and so should be simple enough to do (hopefully not famous last words). Technically we are in a maisonette so the bedroom is on the 1st floor, we own the room below it but there are flats above us so no access there.

My only two concerns are:

1) The floor is concrete so how best to attach the floor plate?

2) The ceiling is a suspended ceiling on an aluminium system. The structural ceiling is significantly higher and from our side appears as (in layman's terms) corrugated metal. How to attach the ceiling plate (and to what) to have sufficient strength and not risk the integrity of the whole ceiling?

If you are going wall to wall fix to the walls, stick the floor plate to the concrete floor using something like gripfil, do not fix down into the floor unless you are sure there are no services in the floor. Run the ceiling plate wall to wall below the suspended ceiling and fill in with your stud wall structure.

Itll be going in a corner so will a fix a structural wall on one end (dot&dab ontop of decent enough blockwork) and an internal wall on the other.

I second not fixing the wall to the floor unless you are certain that there are no elcetrical or other type of instalations beneath the concrete surface.

If you need to fix it to the floor then perhaps you could use some glue? I am sure that there are industrial solutions for wood to concrete adhesion. The question is what kind of a concrete finish is it? Is it a smooth and shiny finish or just a rigid good ol' regular concrete?
