Rebate in Wickes standard hardwood door frame

Hi, I have bought a standard hardwood exterior door frame from Wickes. When trying to fit the hinges, I realized the frame has a rebate all along the inside of the frame. It is 2.5mm deep and about 5cm wide, but it doesn't run to the edge of the frame, leaving a ledge that interferes with the hinge. Any ideas why this is? Am I missing something obvious?

Thanks!

Hi emlbrouwer
I assume you mean 5mm wide, if yes this is the rebate for a fraught strip.

Hi,

Yes. It is about 5 cm. So I I do fit a draught strip would the hinges fit on top of that? If not, can I chisel the edge away and fit the hinge flush? I am worried that will affect the size of the door opening.. thanks!

Hi emlbrouwer
The 50mm rebate is for the door to fit into, there may be an additional rebate of about 5mm at the back for a draught strip. Offer up your door and make sure it fits the opening, you will then see how much clearance there is for the hinges.
