Newel post help with restoring
Posted: Sun Jul 31, 2022 10:31 pm
Previous newel post has been cut at 41 degrees and I can’t replace the base without replacing the bottom steps which I don’t want to do.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
A few options,
1. drill out a 38mm hole in both the base newel and new newel part and fit 38mm dowel. Glue together.
2. Fit metal plates to sides and clad base in 6mm mdf and paint.
3. Screw in a few large screws and fill the holes and hope it holds!
My diy skills are ok but a bit lost on this one!
