I'm about to put down a solid wood tongue&groove floor over existing quarry tiles and wonder what type of underlay I should use. The room is on the ground floor of the house. Can you advise?

Double up on a laminate underlay

you should buy laminate underlay with a built in damp proof membrane, its silver foil on the reverse side, when you lay the underlay turn it up the wall a few inches and cover it with your skirting board, any moisture will expand the timber and bubble the floor, you should also consider storing the timber in your house for a few weeks to aclimatise
