Hello,

I'm looking for some advice regarding self amalgamating tape and leak in my Combi Boiler. I have a Raven Heat 820/20 Combi Boiler and there is a small leak where the cold water feed is connected to the DHW Flow Rate Adjustment. I plan to get the boiler replaced in the next 2 -3 weeks as I have been having problems with it for the last 2 years . However I was wondering if it would be possible or safe to apply self amalgamating tape to the leaking area in the short term?

As a trademan I obviously don't go for the 'bodge it and scarper' techniques you're talking about here.

As for the DIY side of the arguement : It'll be safe - it's only water. It's not like your going to use this to repair a gas leak.

I'd imagine it will only be a 'O' ring or fibre washer that needs replacing anyway - not a massive or particularly hard task.

If you don't want to repair properly:
Is it much of a leak ? if it's not and it's not dripping onto electrical components of the boiler or any electrical appliances or sockets below - i'd just place a bucket to catch the drips and hope it doesn't get worse before the new boiler is installed.

What make of new boiler have you gone for ? id imagine it wont be Ravenheat, if you've been having bother with this one.

Thanks htg engineer. I have something below to collect the drips, however there is not alot of room under the boiler and as I am out for most of the day at work I'm concerned if the leak gets worse it might overflow. I guessed it was probably just the O ring but I am not particuarly happy working inside the boiler.

I've had a couple of quotes so far for a replacment and both have recomended Worcester boilers which I believe are good. The Raven Heats been alot of trouble but to be fair it's pretty old.
