Knocking Central Heating

Im sure this has been asked a million times but I cant seem to find a search button anywhere.
I have a combi boiler for my central heating and hot water and only moved in to the house about 6 months ago. Now we have starting using the heating more ive noticed the pipes make a knocking sort of noise while it is heating up and cooling down.
It only seems to be upstairs and i cant figure out why it is doing it, any suggestions?
