difference between closed and open systems

as a property investor,i am wondering if there is an easier way of finding out what type of system it is ,without going into the roofspace to look for the expansion tank(as in an open system) ?

There are several different ways, of identifying systems. What you need to do is a little homework about different systems for a start, but the best giveaway is how many and what size pipes go up though the ceiling into the loft. Trouble is, they could of curse be redundant, left over after an upgrade for example.

the lack of a hot water cylinder in the airing cupboard is a pretty good giveaway that its a combi, also if you turn on a hot tap and the boiler kicks in.
