Gas Furnace

The burner on my gas furnace kicks on (lights up) then goes off, it then kicks on again, the furnace is "on" but no fire and the fan doesn't start.
It will do this constantly (burner kicking on and off before fan starts). I am pretty certain it is the thermocouple; however, in between the burner going off and on, is there danger of carbon monoxide? I haven't been able to get anyone out to fix it yet and I am worrying about this.
This furnace is less than ten years old too. Thank you for your response.
