central heating sometimes not coming on

Hi, I have a combi boiler set on timed which sometimes will not come on , I have no heating or hot water for a while then it will just decide to work again . If I get home and find the heating has not come on and the reset button is flashing, when I press it, it has no effect but the heating may just return to normal next time it is due on.
