when the boiler automatically turns on when we have turned the programmer on the boiler will shut down after a couple of minutes, and we are not getting any hot water or heat to the radiators, can any one think of a reason for this please

Your problem could be MANY things, so give us ALL the info you can. E.G. make & model of boiler,system type etc etc
