Hi all,
Wonder if you can offer any advice, my mother had a problem with a leaking cold water storage tank, which had to be changed, as she needs/wants to change the boiler to a combi we decided to ask her friend who is a gas fitter to do a tempory repair until he replaces the boiler.
Which he gratfully did by fitting a 20 gallon tank to feed the shower then connected the taps up to the mains.

He has now got us out of trouble which is great, but now there is a great noise which happens everytime we open the cold tap in the bathroom which I take it is pipes vibrating, there is an isolating valve on the feed which we have tried to adjust but doesn't help. The taps are cheap ones.

Does anyone have any advice please?

Turn the main stopcock down on the incoming mains as a temporary measure.

There will be a difference in the taps

Your old system was probably 1.5bar of pressure to the taps?

The new mains system could be between 1 and 10 bar of pressure to the taps

Mast ceramic pillar taps have a max pressure within which they operate

Older taps may not be able to stand the pressure hence the noise

Thanks for your replies guys, Stop cocks a good idea for another tempory repair. Will try it.

The taps are budget ones & I have changed the washer already, oddly the bath tap doesn't cause a problem. Mother needs new taps anyway, so may change them for her to spruce up the bathroom.

Id be very suprised if header tank pressure gave 1.5 bar unless the bathroom is four floors below.

knock the stop cock back and check the pipes are properly secured.

Bath taps will be 22mm feeds whereas others will be 15mm so it defo sounds like a pressure/flow cause..... either loose pipes vibrating under new pressure or too much pressure, stop cock needs knocking back.

The actual taps rarely have a problem going from low pressure to high..... its normally a problem when people fit mains pressure taps to low pressure systems instead. They have a minumum bar required.
