Turning off mains water

I have a Halstead Gold Combi boiler. Whenever I go away I leave the boiler on (heating also if winter) and have always turned the mains water off at the stopcock. I was told you should not do this. Is that right?

If the heating is on then I don't understand why you turn the cold water off - if the house is warm, the pipes wont freeze.

The only reason you would have been told not to do it - is because if the water is turned off - and the hot water tap is opened then there's no water in the DHW section of the boiler the next time the CH comes on

Thank you for your reply. The reason I turn the water off is because I am concerned about the pipes in the dishwasher/washing machine etc bursting. I have first hand experience of a flooded house so I am very cautious! Are you saying then that if you do not turn the hot water tap on once the mains water is turned off then it will be okay to turn the water off?

Thank you again.
