Air bricks: Does anyone know?

I live in a drafty flat in a converted Victorian house, I have recently had a single very battered sash window replaced with double glazing, the room has an existing airbrick at the top of the chimney breast (the flat has central heating), I have been told by the builders that I need a new airbrick installed on the external wall to avoid condensation problems – can anyone advise whether this is actually necessary?

The airbrick in the chimney breast is the ventilate the chimney not the room.

Your builder is correct. The reason many homes get condensation and black mould problems is due to a lack of ventilation - particulary when double glazing is fitted.

Trust your builder in this case.
