small hole in elson ruby storage tank

my elson hot water storage tank is leaking from a small corrosion hole caused by a small green patch on the copper,can i patch this up with a small piece of copper sheet and some compound or clear silicone??

I wouldn't attempt repairing it, if its corroding then one day it might burst and the tanks hold alot of water. Depending on the age and type of the sytem, I would renew elson tank but they're not cheap. If its an old system I would consider having it upgraded to a combi.
