Fitting a T.R.V to existing radiator

I am trying to fit 4 TRV to my existing radiators. Have 10 radiators in total but only fitting 4 to the bedrooms and toilet as these rooms get the coldest.

I have the bi-directional TRV kits and know how to change them, but what i need is help/tips on how to remove the pipe/spindle that attaches the existing lock shield value to the radiator. The existing nut which tightens onto the lock shiled as about 22mm, where as the new TRV is only 15mm. Therefore i have to remove all of the old pipe work from the radiator and fit new (which is all in the kits).
The main probme is that the existing pipe has nowhere to attach an adjustable spanner onto, it is just a round pipe.

Hope this makes sense - any help tips would be much welcomed.

wil4256,
The stub has an internal hexagon - you just need the right size allen key.
