I have a Franco Belge multi-fuel that was fitted by a locoal builder about
12 months ago. I am worried wether it has been installed correctly as
there are heavy scorch marks at the rear of the stove ( on the painted-
fireproof plaster board ) and a mild smell from this when the fire is in full
glow. I am concerned that there may not be enough air-gap at the rear.
Unfortunately, I don't have the original fitting guidelines that came with the fire.
We have decided to stop using it until we can sort this out. ANY advice would be very welcome. :cry: :cry:

Get the builder back - its only been 12 months - and tell him you are not happy and ask him what he is going to do about it. He should fix it or get it fixed at no cost to you. If he won't get a HETAS engineer in to inspect and test the stove and provide you with a report as to what needs doing in corrective work. Then present the builder with the report and if he still won't deal with it report him to trading standards. If any corrective work is minor you might be happy just to let the HETAS engineer fix it, pay his bill and forget about the builder.
