I am experiencing kettling from my central heating system. The noise appears to be coming from the heat exchanger. B G engineer says i need to power flush at a cost of £600. Can i try and use chemicals to flush myself first before i need to power flush. I have a header tank with ballcock and it is a drop feed system due to the concrete floors on the ground floor. I have concerns with draining system as believe can be problamatic filling up again with being a drop feed system. Full explaination on task would be much appreciated

You can try using de-scaler and system cleanser etc etc. But you will have to drain the system totally, as this cannot be left in the system.

To be honest I wouldn't bother with the powerflush, not sure about the age of your system, but I would put the £600 towards a new boiler/heating system, don't bother getting a quote off BG - far too expensive, try local plumbers (recommendations are best).
