OVERFLOW ON HEATING SYSTEM

Hope someone can help!
We have a Potterton Suprima boiler which is currently programmed for hot water only.
The boiler heats a Santon Premier water heater which in turn is connected to a red and a white Varem expansion vessel.
Last night, water started pouring out through the discharge pipe and was clearly visible through the undish as being way in excess of anything 'normal'
The pressure gauge attached to the red vessel showed the red dial at '1' and the black dial at '2'
I had the boiler on maximum temperature so turned it down half way although I heard that ideally it should be on max - this seemed to reduce the amount of overflow eventually.
This morning, the watr continued to flow out, albeit as a trickle, and at 10.30am, 2 hours after the boiler switched off, its still trickling.
The pressure gauge hasn't moved since last night
Any thoughts folks?
