Help!! I have a back boiler behind and ancient gas fire which has got to be 40 years old. I can't light the pilot light so have no heating. Can I replace just the boiler? I don't need the gas fire. How much would a basic boiler cost? Where could I get one from that doesn't cost the earth? I'm a single mum with 4 freezing children.

I would get an RGI first, it may just be the thermocouple which can be about £8-£10 to buy.

What's an RGI? Where would you get one? What would I do with it?

Registered Gas Installer, pay him/her to repair.
