New Central Heating keeps pumping

Hi all,

I have a small question about newly installed central heating at my home. It works perfectly and I see when it starts heating up on the wireless thermostat’s monitor. However, the pump inside is always non-stop working. Once it starts heating up the water inside, it is quite normal and understandable that the pump is working. When I decrease the room temperature in the thermostat before going sleep, let say from 19 C to 16 C, it normally takes 2-3 hours to reach 16 C. However, the pump still keeps running during this 2-3 hours. I am wondering if this is due to wrong programming of the heating system? Can it be because of the outside temperature which is around -5 nowadays?

BTW: We have only central heating not boiler for hot water.

Thank you very much.

Hi,
most boilers have a pump 'off' delay for up to 5 mins. to take way any residual heat in the boiler.
It should not run the pump on for so long as yours is.
I would call the installer back to confirm this is a fault.
You should have the hand book for the boiler which should confirm over run time,
