Bleeding my central heating/hot water pump

Hi,

I have a Wilo RS50 pump - like this:
Google "raygrahams.com/catalog/images/wilo-gold-rs50-pump.jpg"

I want to bleed it, as I had a plumber round this morning who did exactly that and after draining the system and swapping out a radiator, I think I need to do it again. Trouble is, he gave me "the fear" about turning the metal screw to bleed it ... "don't turn it too far or else it'll pop out and ... " well, I can imagine the mess.

So, question is - how far do I turn it, and which direction?

There is a clockwise arrow, and I think this is the tighten direction - based ont he fact I can only turn it the other way! (smart eh?) .. but how far can I turn it the other way?

I am tempted to turn it till I get water - but concerned I'll go too far.

Come on - give me confidence!

Cheers,

The arrow on the pump is indicating the rotation direction of the pump. To vent the pump one full turn anti-clockwise should be sufficient. Be patient and wait till all air is dispelled and only water is seen. Better doing this when pump is not running. In the event of the screw coming out there should be valves on both sides of the pump to isolate,
