I am planning to move a radiator in the bathroom and replace it with a towel warmer/radiator. I have been told that I must turn the gas boiler off before I start. Is this really necessary? Surely as long as I drain the system it will be OK but need your views to be certain. Please help. :?

Yes; you need to turn the boiler off....

Remember; we use the boiler to heat the water that heats us.... As far as the boiler is concerned; that water is there to keep it cold; without water and with the boiler on you will inevitably overheat the appliance and possibly burn the pump out if you was planning on leaving that on too.
